What Are Remembrances In Elden Ring?
Remembrances are Elden Ring’s version of Boss Souls from previous Souls games. They serve the same function as well. They are Consumable Items that do 2 things: if consumed by the player, it gives them a whole lot of runes that they can use to level up or buy items. However, its main value comes from the boss’s ability/weapon that it gives to the player. When taken to a character in Roundtable Hold, she’ll transform the Remembrance into a weapon/ability for the player’s usage. These are very, very powerful, and can be a game-changing weapon/ability for the player’s current builds. Examples of these would be things like Starscourge Radahn’s twin greatswords which deal Gravity damage. Another example is the Hand of Malenia, widely considered to be an utter menace in some PvP builds. In terms of spells, we have Fortissax’s Lightning Spear and Burn, O Flame! Overall, Remembrances are powerful tools, to obtain great gear from certain bosses. In total, there are 15 Remembrances in the game, and each has 2 trade-in choices for a total of 30. You can’t get all of them in a single New Game run, no sir. You need to go for New Game+ for that. Luckily for everyone involved, Remembrances are kept in New Game+, which is a huge sigh of relief. However, It’s a really difficult thing to deal with several annoying bosses twice. That’s where Remembrance duplication comes in. Let us now continue on how to duplicate Remembrance items in Elden Ring.
How To Duplicate A Remembrance In Elden Ring
Now that we know what a Remembrance is, let’s go over how to duplicate them. I mean, you can do it by going to New Game+ and killing the boss again. But if you’re not in there for the hassle, then there’s another method. But first, how do you find Remembrances?
Where To Find Remembrances?
As already stated, you can get Remembrances by defeating certain bosses. 15 to be exact. Each of these bosses is unique and has varying movesets that have the ability to 1-shot unprepared players. In addition to this, some bosses are more annoying to deal with compared to others. So much so that it’s not a good idea to even fight them a 2nd time in fear of conniptions, unending rage, and destroyed controllers/keyboards. These are the bosses that can drop Remembrances. Do note that they’re very powerful (With a few exceptions) and have unique abilities that can deal copious amounts of damage. It is also great to know what the reward you before you ask yourself how to duplicate Remembrance items in Elden Ring. We’ll start from the earliest of these bosses you can encounter, all the way to the last boss you’ll encounter.
Godrick the Grafted
Godrick the Grafted is a bit of a pushover when compared to the rest of his more powerful siblings. However, the sheer amount of Tarnished limbs he’s grafted unto his body gave him a very heretical power. The Godrick from before is now nothing more than an abominable, hulking individual. With a giant left arm grafted with the arms of other Tarnished. Honestly, him being a complete wimp before he did the grafting is the biggest reason why he’s doing it. Not that it helped him against the other demigods anyways. Anyhow, Godrick has 2 phases in his fight, and phase 2 activates when he’s at half HP. He cuts off his massive arm and grafts a dragon head to it, giving him a dragon head flamethrower. When you get his Remembrance, you get the chance of getting either his axe or a version of his dragon head flamethrower as a fist weapon.
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
Next on this list is Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, located in the Raya Lucaria Academy. This one is a bit weird since her first phase has her floating up the air while her babies pelt you with books and chandeliers. However, when you deplete her HP, things get real, as she brings the full might of Glintstone Sorcery against you. She straight-up fires magic beams, pelts you with moon orbs, and summons various Spirit Ash enemies to gank your poor behind. Still, not a hard boss, just a bit annoying the first time you see her. After defeating Rennala (you don’t kill her), you gain the ability to respec by giving her a Larval Tear. Her Remembrance gives either the Carian Regal Scepter or the Rennala’s Full Moon spell.
Starscourge Radahn
Next on the list is Starscourge Radahn. An absolute unit of a demigod whose masterful usage of Gravity Magic and giant greatswords made him a legend. Thus, it’s a bit sad that you fight him in a less-than-ideal state. The Scarlet Rot has already made him mad after all, and the only thing left in his mind is an all-consuming urge to destroy. His former subordinate made a festival in his honor so worthy warriors can come and attempt to put him to rest. Pretty hardcore. Anyhow, expect gravity magic and lots of punishing attacks. He’s also the kind of guy who’ll pelt your ass with arrows from his giant greatbow. His 2nd phase is particularly terrifying yet hilarious at the same time as well. After beating him, his Remembrance will give you either the Starscourge Greatswords or his Lion Greatbow.
Regal Ancestor Spirit
The Regal Ancestor Spirit is a bit of a wuss if we’re being honest. The main thing that’s difficult about him is his weird hitbox. Anyhow, you’ll fight a lesser version of him earlier in the game, so this one should be easy if you know his attacks. No 2nd phase for him this time, just an annoying penchant to heal damage every few minutes. His Remembrance will give the player either the Winged Greathorn weapon or the Ancestral Spirit’s Horn talisman.
Astel, Naturalborn of the Void
Astel is one unnatural being. There’s something about him that sets off the willies for some people. Maybe it’s the centipede look he has, but the Naturalborn of the Void is something not of the Lands Between. He’s also particularly tricky, as he constantly teleports around the arena, shooting gravity magic at you, and being a general nuisance. For extra pain points, he has a grab attack that can 1-hit low HP players in one go. So make sure to get as much Vigor as possible. Anyhow, his Remembrance gives either the flail Bastard’s Stars or the Waves of Darkness Ash of War.
Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy
Rykard is a spectacle boss. Remember Yhorm from Dark Souls 3? Or the Storm King on Demon’s Souls? Where the game has you find, or gives you a weapon that only works on that particular stage? Yeah, this is Elden Ring’s version of that, but way better. Your main weapon here is the Serpent-Hunter, which, given Rykard’s current form, is very appropriate. Your main goal is to whack him with the Serpent-Hunter’s Ash of War skill until he’s dead. Simple, right? Well, no. He has a phase 2, and it’s a very disgusting phase 2. Particularly because he takes out a sword from his snake mouth that looks like it’s made of human bodies. Yeah, disgusting. Anyhow, When you beat this guy, his remembrance will give you the Blasphemous Blade, or Rykard’s Rancor sorcery spell.
Morgott the Omen King
We then have Morgott the Omen King, who you fought as your first proper boss as his moniker, Margit the Fell Omen. But we digress. Morgott is Margit with more attacks, and faster attack speed. He does have a few new attacks that he’ll throw at you when he’s at phase 2 though, so be careful. Also, you can summon Melina in this fight which is pretty dope. Even if she’s kinda useless. Anyhow, Morgott’s remembrance gives you his Cursed Sword or a reusable item: the Regal Omen Bairn. This makes Morgott’s Remembrance pretty unique, as he’s the only boss in the game whose Remembrance gives a reusable item.
Malenia, Blade of Miquella
Next on this list is quite possibly the most infuriating and frustrating boss in the whole game: Malenia, Blade of Miquella. She’s… annoying. Incredibly fast, near-instantaneous strikes, an HP heal mechanic when she hits enemies, and her 2nd phase gives Scarlet Rot. A lot of players were roadblocked on this boss and she’s one of the hardest bosses in Souls History. Rivaling the Orphan of Kos and the Ornstein and Smough tag team. Anyhow, her Remembrance gives the Scarlet Aeonia incantation or the Hand of Malenia katana. You want to duplicate this remembrance the moment you get it though. This is one boss you would want to learn how to duplicate her Remembrance item.
Mohg, Lord of Blood
Mohg is the next boss that gives a remembrance and this one is straight-up a Game of Thrones character. Which, given that the game’s lore is written by George R. R. Martin, AKA the creator of A Song of Ice and Fire? Well, yeah. An influence there. He deals damage using blood magic and bloody proud of it. An annoying boss even if you know his gimmick. Thus, it’s usually a good idea to burst him down until he’s deader than a doornail. His Remembrance gives his weapon, Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear, or the Bloodboon incantation. The Sacred Spear in particular is very powerful with an annoying Ash of War skill.
Lichdragon Fortissax
We have our first dragon on this list with Lichdragon Fortissax. This is an undead dragon. Yes, this is a thing, and he’s a bloody awesome boss fight all on his own. Red lightning everywhere, dragonfire galore, you name it, Fortissax has it. Also, it’s an undead lichdragon who uses lightning magic. What’s not to love? Anyhow, once you beat Lichdragon Fortissax, his remembrance gives you the choice between 2 incantations: Death Lightning, or Fortissax’s Lightning Spear. Both are awesome choices, but Fortissax’s Lightning Spear takes the vote for the coolness factor.
Fire Giant
The Fire Giant is honestly an underwhelming boss fight when you deal with him on the Mountaintops of the Giants area. Not much to say about him, other than being a complete unit in terms of HP and having lots of fire incantations to throw at you. Most of them explode to boot. Anyhow, once he’s beaten, you’ll get either the Giant’s Red Braid whip or the Burn, o Flame! Incantation.
Dragonlord Placidusax
For those that want even more dragons, look no further than Dragonlord Placidusax. This one is yet another cinematic boss fight against a huge dragon with tons of attacks. Same deal with Fortissax, but with the addition of a disappearing act that can be a bit annoying to deal with. Honestly though, Placidusax honestly feels like a boss where the game gives us the ability to use Torrent. Mostly because of how fast the fight tempo is. Still, once beaten, his remembrance will give the player either the Dragon King’s Cragblade thrusting sword or the Placidusax’s Ruin incantation.
Maliketh, the Black Blade
Maliketh is the last boss you’ll fight on Crumbling Farum Azula, and he’s a bit of a doozy. He starts as a Beast Clergyman, a pretty agile opponent that is a boss all of its own. Even that first phase is enough to kick an unprepared player’s ass. However, once he’s reduced to half health, the real fight begins. For one, he has Destined Death, which takes off hefty chunks of your HP. In addition to that, parts of your HP would be grayed out, and wouldn’t allow the player to restore that portion of their HP bar. Combine this with his 2nd phase being faster compared to his first and all the combo attacks he has. Well, you better be prepared to dig deep for this boss because he will cause you to clench your ass so hard you’ll create diamonds. Once beaten, Maliketh’s remembrance gives the player either the Black Blade incantation or the Black Blade weapon. Yes, it’s confusing.
Hoarah Loux, Warrior
The next boss the player has to fight after Maliketh is the first Elden Lord, Godfrey. You fight him as a spirit in the Capital city earlier. However, this man is the real deal and will introduce your face to his huge ass axe accordingly. However, once you drain his HP to half health like Maliketh? He dispenses with the courtesies, chucks his axe away, breaks the neck of his lion stand, and turns to Hoarah Loux, Warrior. Once that happens, Elden Ring turns into a wrestling match. Hoarah Loux has piledrivers for days, and his delayed attacks can catch a player off-guard. Still, the fight is mega enjoyable, though a bit intensive. When beaten, he’ll congratulate you like a boss for being a badass Tarnished warrior. Very honorable fellow. Anyhow, Hoarah Loux, Warrior’s remembrance gives the player the Axe of Godfrey or the Earthshaker Ash of War.
Elden Beast
Last but not least is the Elden Beast, the game’s final boss. You fight Radagon first, but after beating his ass, the Elden Beast will arrive to defend the Elden Ring. Honestly? This fight’s a bit annoying due to the same reasons that Placidusax is a bit annoying. The sheer size of the Elden Beast’s arena is quite suitable for Torrent to come out. For some reason, this doesn’t happen, which is a bit of a letdown. Especially since the Elden Beast flies around the arena and is a general nuisance. All in all, not a very enjoyable fight if you’re a melee-focused build. Players, that use ranged options like sorceries and incantations though? Well, they’ll have a field day. Anyhow, the Elden Beast gives the player a choice between 2 weapons: Marika’s Hammer, or the Sacred Relic Sword.
Where To Find Walking Mausoleums?
Now that we know what Remembrances are and how to duplicate them. Let’s talk about where to duplicate them, the Walking Mausoleums. These huge turtles carrying weird-ass cathedrals wander around certain areas of the Lands Between. Some of them have bells attached underneath them, which we’ll talk about later. To gain access, players are required to attack the skull deposits located around the stone turtles. These are usually found on the base of the building or the legs. Another thing to take note of is the spectral knights that roam the area around the mausoleum. These are annoyances but can be easily avoided. What you should keep a wary eye on is the turtle’s movement, as being in the place where it walks can lead to your death. These are the areas where you can find Walking Mausoleums:
Mausoleums With Bell Vs Regular Walking Mausoleums
Before we end our how to duplicate Remembrance item guide, let us take a look at the two kinds of Walking Mausoleums. There’s a notable difference between Walking Mausoleums with bells to without bells. Remember those Demigods of Queen Marika? Yeah, their Remembrances can only be duplicated on Walking Mausoleums with bells on them. Well, Rennala’s Remembrance can also be duplicated on bell Mausoleums only, but we digress. This is a small, but the most notable difference, as there are 6 demigods in the game, and only 5 Bell Mausoleums available. So choose wisely.
Benefits of Duplicating Remembrances
The benefits of knowing how to duplicate Remembrance items are pretty obvious: You wouldn’t need to beat the boss you’re fighting on New Game+ for the 2nd Remembrance item. The Mausoleums are the best way for players to obtain boss weapons/items/spells without the need for restarting the game. Sure, there are only 7 Walking Mausoleums and there are 15 Remembrances. But that’s 7 bosses you don’t need to deal with in New Game+ to get their items. This is particularly notable with Malenia, who’s a complete and utter terror to beat once, never mind twice. Keeping a Bell Mausoleum in hand makes sure that you only need to do her boss fight one time. After that, you don’t need to go back ever again. That caps off this how to duplicate Remembrance items guide for Elden RIng players.
